That is not the case for Ihinosen Ighedosa; a Nigerian Contemporary Fashion Designer from Edo State.

You know how a profession chooses you? That is how fashion design chose Ihinosen because even though she is a trained Microbiologist from one of Nigerian’s best private Universities in the place of Covenant University; fashion was her passion. According to her: “I have always had a passion for fashion growing up and whilst in school, I knew I was going to follow this path. I would watch a lot of sewing videos on YouTube and read a lot of sewing books. Some years after graduating I signed up for a 6-month course in Fashion design and garment making at a fashion school in Abuja. I also took an online course in Fashion entrepreneurship and soon afterwards decided to set up the Brand”.

From the above statement, it can be agreed that Ihinosen passion was the major driving force for the Sensa Greene brand. And the brand which has its name coined out of her two names’ prefix and suffix (IhinoSEN IghedoSA); and her favourite colour (green)-have been on a steady rise since 2015. Below are few things that make her and Sensa Greene unique:

A FAMILY BRAND

In a short story of her biggest influence in fashion, Ihinosen reveals that her mum was one of her earliest influence. According to her: “Growing up I was influenced by my mother who had a sewing machine. She was not a seamstress or designer. However, because of the financial constraint she would sometimes buy thrift clothes and try to make it somewhat fashionable. I would sit and watch her work her magic as she turns something old to something different and soon after I started ripping my clothes trying to emulate her. I never really got around to using the machine because I was quite young but I would use the thread and needle to sew it back or make something new. As I grew older, I knew that this is what I wanted to do”.

The above revelation shows that unlike most brands which had been influenced by other factors ranging from lack of employment to seeking new design; Ihinosen and the Sensa Greene are a brand inspired by the bond of family. This drove her not just into any type of fashion design but into the design of Custom Bridal and evening wear allowing her help kick start new homes by creating memories one garment at a time.

FASHION PHILOSOPHY

Fashion Designers are creative artist who operate in a field of art that is broad. A lot of ideas, styles and patterns influences their creativity.
