Davido Blow my Mind: It Blows Our Mind

Cillacritic.com has always been on the case of David Adedeji Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido. We have always negatively criticized him for making songs with same pon pon tune. After getting the ponpon beat from Nigerian’s self-acclaimed favorite boy “Tekno”; he went on a rampage with the ponpon sound. He made almost eight released song with it which was not creative at all. What made it worrisome was the lack of well-arranged lyrics. One of the worst of them all was “Nwa Baby”. Although most people might claim it was a good sound. If you are a music critic like me, you will totally not regard the song as a hit. But Davido Blow my Mind which he features Chris Brown can be regarded as a new Hit.

Although the beat which was made by Shizi is still a ponpon sound; I can defend Davido that it is a total swap in ways from the old songs. The lyrical strength of the song is amazing. The vocals of Chris was lit and the production was just sugar cane juice.

THE MESSAGE

The song which features Davido and Chris has each artist take sixteen bars of solo each. Davido opens the song with Davido. He professes his love-stating that he will never let her down by wasting her time or letting her go. He declares that she is the best he has ever known. Stating that she blows his mind. Davido tells his lady that he is ready to change his life to suit her life. He declares that he is ready to do anything to keep her for himself because she blows his mind. He complements her attitude and body as mind blowing.

Chris Brown goes ballistic on the mic in his verse-giving it his very best. He comes in with a proverb. He asks his lady that can I drink from your water; give me a cup, I don’t want to sip. He declares that he wants to steal her love claiming that he is guilty of loving her. He professes his love her that nothing is going to change the way he feels about her.

The highlight of the song is the pre-choros which Davido and Chris repeat. It sums up what a perfect duet. I am in love with this song; it is a perfect lover’s song and it was delivered in a supersonic tune with harmonious beat.

THE BEAT

Shizi has always been a good producer. He is a hit making veteran. He has always understood what it means to make powerful Afropop Hit. Shizi and Sarz have always been on their own level when it comes to making music in Nigeria. This beat is another addition to his library. The arrangement of the song is dope. He produced the song like a rap music featuring thirty-two Bars of solo, sixteen Bars of pre-chorus and sixteen Bars of Chorus. The intro and outro Hook are just perfect.

The selection of persuasion instruments are not new for any Afropop pon pon producer. The periodic drop of the kick with the ponpon snare going from start to finish was just simple but classy. The way Shizi harnesses the vocal prowess of Mr Chris was like milking a cow of all his milk. Most times the best beats get the best out of the best musicians.

THE VIDEO

The video was not lit when compared to the song but one scene savaged it. The phone boot scene which features David and Chris speak to their lover was a winner. Dope Song
