After her Grammy winning exploits some months back, Billie Eilish has released a follow up single. She showed the world that creating weird songs was her style and she reaffirmed the style in this new song titled “my future”. Still mixing some elements of soul to electronic pop matched with sleepy vocals, Billie brings back her sorrowful, lonely and horror voice back on the Mic.
Although many people are not going to enjoy this music based on the fact that it is not groovy, she is still going to make sales. Billie is one artist who online streaming and social media has given fame beyond measures. Not disrespecting her talent, skills and market sense, but the truth is that Billie is one of those artist who the internet enhanced her fame.

If she was to be chosen strictly on how well and interesting her music was, she would not become a Grammy star. This is because her own age grade around the world do not relate with her music. Even the older generation who would relate to her music would have to be genuine music lovers. But Soundcould, Spotify, Boomplay and other streaming platform have been able to create a world where algorithm and codes define which songs pops up on the trending list.
“My Future” is a song which has a very classy meaning to it but the delivery is too mature. However for anyone who cares to listen, it is a song about a lady who wants to breakup with her lover because she wants to chase her dreams squarely.
THE MESSAGE
According to Boomplay Nigeria, Billie Eilish in her message to her fans when releasing the music, she claimed the following. “We wrote this at the very beginning of quarantine. It’s a song that’s really personal and special to me. When we wrote this song, it was exactly where my head was at-hopefully, excited and crazy amount of self-reflection and self-growth”.
Form the above statement, it was obvious that Billie was reminiscing the impact she was having in the music world. Within a space of twenty-four months, Billie have metamorphosed from being an ordinary sound cloud musician to a Grammy A-list artist. For any humble artist he or she will be overwhelmed and excited of what he or she could achieve in the future.
She opens the song with a soul vocals. She paints a picture of someone who is lost in her thought even when she is with her boyfriend. Unknown to her boyfriend she is lost in thought and she has to ask him that doesn’t he notice that her mind is not with him. She explains that she is like a mirror and like everyone does with a mirror that she is looking at herself over the past few years. She tells him that she has made up her mind to leave him.
For anyone who wants to take a break from a relationship to go and pursue a dream, he or she must have a reason. In the case of Billie, she claims to have had enough time to reflect and foresee her future based on what she has experienced in recent months. According to her, she claims to be in love with her future and she is ready to pursue it because she cannot wait to meet her. She tells her boyfriend that she hopes that he understand that she has changed from the usual girl he used to know.
Of course every choice has its repercussion, she claims that he knows that she will be lonely at some point because she is letting him go. Trying to water down the emotion, she sweet-talks him-that it pains her to leave him because he is really handsome. She claims to know better than to drive him away but she knows that her future will want her to stay focus on her dreams and success. Hence she is in love with her future and she has to go and see her alone.
